Aquatica Artist Reception & Display

October 30 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Aquatica – Reflections on Wisconsin Lakes

A new art and science exhibit from the Drawing Water program at UW-Trout Lake Station will be on display at the Frank B. Koller Memorial Library in Manitowish Waters from October 30 to November 30, 2024. Aquatica features the work of 12 artists, six art interns and six professional artists. Please join us for a reception for the show on October 30, 10a.m.-Noon, at the library.

For decades, Western scientific training has encouraged researchers to look objectively at systems and to build experiments that remove human elements from the work. But humans are intrinsically part of the ecosystems they study. This show explores the science of lake ecosystems and the people who study aquatic systems in our area.

The project was done in partnership with the UW Madison Center for Limnology’s Trout Lake Station, the Lac du Flambeau Tribal Natural Resources, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Northern Highland Fishery Research Escanaba Lake Station.

Aquatica’s artwork represents shared journeys in art and science between 2013 and 2023. Internships, mentor stipends, and art curation funding were provided by a grant from the Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Endowment and the National Science Foundation through the Northern Temperate Lakes Long Term Ecological Research program.
