“Colossal Fossil – Dinosaurs vs. The Asteroid ”

When: Thursday, June 27th, 2019

Where: Frank B. Koller Memorial Library, Manitowish Waters

Time: 6PM

This space themed program highlights the most famous extinction event of all time. 66 million years ago, a giant, Mount Everest-sized rock from outer space slammed into the earth. It was not a good day to be a dinosaur. However, many animals survived and prospered. “Dinosaurs vs. The Asteroid” describes this extinction event in detail while comparing animals that lived before and after that fateful day. While the long-necked dinosaurs are long gone, giraffes are here to take their place. Though the famous Triceratops is no longer roaming the floodplains, today we have massive herds of bison. Put it this way: If that rock didn’t hit Earth, this place would look a lot different! Family-friendly, this talk is for children, but adults, too! It’s FREE!

Old Farm Country Cookbook by Jerry Apps

When: Friday, July 12th, 2019

Where: MW Town Hall

Time: 6pm

Sponsored by the Frank B. Koller Memorial Library

Return to an era when all food was local and farming was a family-run affair with story master Jerry Apps. Together with his daughter, author Susan Apps-Bodilly, they share the farm family food that only Jerry’s mother knew how to make in this warm-hearted, memoir-style cookbook plucked right from Eleanor Apps’s Depression Era recipe box. Inspired by her dishes, Jerry and Susan, take us on a culinary tour of life on the farm during the Depression and World War II. Seasoned with personal stories, menus, and family photos, Old Farm Country Cookbook recalls a time when electricity had not yet found its way to the farm, when making sauerkraut was a family endeavor, and when homemade ice cream tasted better than anything you could buy at the store. This is a FREE program!

Wisconsin Lighthouses by Ken and Barb Wardius

When: Monday, August 26th, 2019

Where: MW Town Hall

Time: 6pm

Sponsored by the Frank B. Koller Memorial Library

No symbol is more synonymous with Wisconsin’s rich maritime traditions than the lighthouse. These historic beacons conjure a bygone era: romance, loneliness, and dependability; dedicated keepers manning the lights; eerie tales of haunted structures and ghosts of past keepers; mariners of yesteryear anxiously hoping to make safe haven around rocky shorelines. If these sentinels could talk, imagine the tales they would tell of ferocious Great Lakes storms taking their toll on vessels and people alike. Let Ken and Barb Wardius take you on this amazing journey to Wisconsin Lighthouses. This is a FREE program.

Mah Jongg – The Dragon Ladies
Meets every Wednesday at 9am. Anyone welcome!

NOTICE: As with all programs, more parking is available next door at the Community Center.
