Friends of the Library

Looking for people!

Dear Friend,

This letter is an invitation for you to join the Frank B. Koller Friends of the Library. We are a nonprofit, 501(c)(3), organization that has a long history of assisting our library in meeting the needs of the Manitowish Waters community. Many of you may remember the history of Andrew Carnegie and his gifts of libraries around the United States. One of the stipulations for a community to get a Carnegie grant was that the citizens demonstrate commitment to a library. That idea is still an important part of the life of libraries today. Our library staff is so committed to our community, it is important for volunteers to support their work and make sure that the needs of the library are met.

Our library is the heart of our community to so many and we would like you to become active in helping to meet its needs. We are reaching out to you to share your time, talents, and ideas. Here are a few committees that are in need of new members and their creative and innovative ideas:

· Programs

· Author Event

· Book sale

· Membership

· Marketing and Promotion of Library

· Library Volunteer opportunity through Janelle Kohl, Director Koller Library

· Newsletter

· Fundraising

· Friends of the Koller Library Board

Our Friends Group Needs You! Please let us know if you would be interested in joining! If you are already a member, please update your information. Please email your contact information to [email protected]

As a supporter of the Frank B Koller Library, we know that you value the importance of the library to the community. Like most of us, you are no doubt really missing it right now and looking forward to the time when things return to normal.

May is generally the kick off to our summer Fundraising season. As you know, our tax dollars do not pay for the purchase of any books, DVDs, programs or other materials for the library. It is ONLY through our fundraising efforts, a small amount of grant money, and individual donations that Janelle is able to buy materials for the library. That is why our annual fundraising is so important to the library.

Due to Covid-19, our annual author event and the first fundraiser of the year have been cancelled and we are unsure of the fate of the rest scheduled for the summer. We respect the measures in place to ensure the health and well- being of everyone, but at the same time we are concerned about fulfilling our annual commitment to Janelle and the Library Board to fund new materials for the library.

So we are reaching out to you and asking if you would be willing to make a direct donation to the Friends of the Library. We are a 501(c)(3) and as such your donation is fully tax deductible. Checks can be made out to the Friends of the Koller Library.

As always, we thank you for your consideration and continued support.

Supporting the Frank B. Koller Memorial Library

The Friends of the Frank B. Koller Memorial Library are an auxiliary support group for the library. The Friends run several fundraisers throughout the year, and provide a large portion of the library's new material budget.

Every fall, we give the contributions from individual donors and the proceeds of our fundraisers to the library. The library director uses this money for the purchase of computers, books, DVDs, and other materials and programs. As you may know, our tax dollars pay for building utilities, library salaries, and the Merlin program, but do not pay for the purchase of any library materials.

As always, we thank you for your consideration and continued support.

Library Book Worm

Would you like to recommend a favorite book, DVD or magazine? Consider making a gift to the Friends’ Library Book Worm found at the front desk. Please think about how you use our library, what fantastic services it offers, and how you can contribute. A gift of $15 buys one new DVD, $25 buys one book, $35 buys one book on CD, and larger donations support many special projects at the library.

The Friends are not all about fundraising: every day you can see some of the 40-50 cheerful volunteers who keep the library running. They check books in and out, shelve items, shovel snow, suggest a great read, and assist library patrons any way they can. Our volunteers come from Manitowish Waters, Boulder Junction, Lac du Flambeau, Mercer, Presque Isle, and Winchester, proving that people all over the northwoods love the Koller Library.
